Book Review - The Next Great Move Of God

Book: The Next Great Move Of God Author: Dr. LaSalle R. Vaughn

Book Synopsis: Christians all over the world are crying out with great sincerity and passion, “God, we need another great revival!” Constantly in search of God’s face, we persistently look for the power of God to manifest in our lives. In seemingly insignificant pockets around the world, the first wave of the revival has already begun. While living in the most ominous times in our world, born-again believers are hearing the clarion call of God to return to the root of their forefathers: Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Guided by their Bible, steadfast Christians are returning to prayer; they’re returning to the Torah. The Torah takes man on a spiritual journey to understand his Creator, as well as himself. He is destined to become more like his Creator through this journey. Thus, the journey, his destiny begins.

A brief listing of some of the chapters covered in The Next Great Move Of God are as follows:
  • Restoring the Hebraic Roots of Our Faith
  • Symbols of Our Faith
  • Understanding the Times
  • Keys to the Heart of the Kingdom
LaSalle speaks of "Reuniting with God, this is a time of refreshing and repenting. In his words, God is calling for Christians to discover the true meaning of His word. Walking in a lifestyle that will bring about the inheritance that was meant for you since the foundation of this world."

"God will restore all things - His presence, His power, and His purpose".

God wants to spend time with us and for us to know Him and His Word and to experience Him on a deeper level. We are not to be wavering in our faith neither hot nor cold. Christians are to passionately love God. When you love someone you want to spend every moment with them. The same should be of our love relationship with God. You have to spend time with Him in order to know Him - you can accomplish this by studying His Word, setting aside time each day to pray and have fellowship with God.

My thoughts:
I thought the book was well written and thoroughly researched when covering topics such as the Torah, Yom Kippur, Rosh Hashanah, The Passover and Hebraic roots. The Next Great Move Of God comes at a time where the church needs to be reminded to turn their hearts back to God and renew their fellowship with Him. Often times we turn away from the things of God in search of wordly comfort only to find ourselves left feeling empty inside, when we have the answer all along.

I am thoroughly convinced that God is calling for the true Christians to stand up and take their rightful place as believers and walk with confidence and boldness in the things of God. We are to continue to live our lives in such a way that other people will see God manifested within us. There are numerous scripture references which makes this an excellent tool for Bible scholars, biblical research, bible study and church discussion groups or anyone searching for ways to restore their relationship with God.

The Next Great Move Of God

The following book was sent to me thanks to the author Dr. LaSalle R. Vaughn and Bring It On! Communications.
The Next Great Move of God will open your eyes to the Jewish world of Jesus. Most Christians are well versed on the topic of salvation but never leave the foot of the cross. As a result, they are likely to live defeated lives and experience many years of struggle and frustration. The purpose of this book is to equip you to look at your Bible through Hebrew eyes, thus helping you understand the need to be obedient to the entire Bible in your daily walk. You will learn the true meaning of the Holy Scriptures, understand that God has appointed times that He desires to meet with you and the principles necessary to enjoy a victorious life in Christ. Your new found obedience to the scriptures will finally answer your questions of success in faith, family, finances and much more.

My Thoughts:

This book is a very interesting study.  The author goes in depth with his research by using scripture to prove his points.  You can tell that the author has put a lot of time into this book.  I would recommnend this book to serious student of the Bible.

The Next Great Move of God" Book Review

I was sent the book, "The Next Great Move of God" to review.  This is a book about "Christians Returning to their Hebraic Roots." The book is written by Dr. LaSalle R. Vaughn who pastors New Life Christian Center in San Antonia, TX. Here is a quick overview from the back of the book:

Find the key to godly success in faith, family, finances, and fellowship with Him. Many Christians have understood the topic of salvation, but have never contemplated the Jewishness of Jesus. Understanding the culture in which Jesus lived will help you properly interpret the Bible. The Next Great Move of God: Christians Returning to Their Hebriac Roots will open your eyes to the Jewish world of Jesus. This profound book reveals that the Christian life is much more than salvation; it's a lifestyle of obedience to the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation."

You've received God's salvation...but find yourself frustrated and struggling in certain areas of your life. Your new found obedience to previously hidden meanings in the Scriptures will transform your life.

Just a few weeks ago, my husband and I were discussing with my in laws how nice it would be to be able to take classes in Hebrew history,so we could understand the culture of Jesus' time.  It is just impossible to find the time though, nor the extra finances to take a college course in this. This book has been a great resource and arrived just in time!

This book is very easy to understand and made me think about Bible passages in ways that I hadn't before.   Dr. Vaughn writes about the Ark of the Covenant, Sukkoth, Yom Kippur, and lots of other topics in this book. There are Biblical references for everything he discusses, which is very important to me. I was not born Jewish and have no close friends who are Jewish, so I have never heard the history behind many of the Jewish holidays and symbols. It was very interesting to read about these things because I have always been curious!

Although I may not agree with every single one of his points and interpretations, I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who desires to learn more about the Hebraic roots of Christianity!

If you'd like to purchase "The Next Great Move of God" you can find it on Amazon and check out the website for the book at http://www.thenextgreatmoveofgod.com/

The Next Great Move of God - Book Review & Giveaway

The Next Great Move of God: Christians Returning to Their Hebraic Roots

The Next Great Move of God - Christians Returning to Their Hebraic Roots

by Dr. LaSalle R. Vaughn
ISBN 978-1-935265-05-4
VMI PUblishers 2009
$13.99

I have been learning more about the Biblical Feasts for a couple of years now. So when I was offered this book to review, I thought it would be a good book for me to read.

From the back cover:

Find the key to godly success in faith, family, finances and fellowship with Him. Most Christians have understood the topic of salvation, but have never contemplated the Jewishness of Jesus. Understanding the culture in which Jesus lived will help you properly interpret the Bible. The Next Great Move of God: Christians Returning to Their Hebraic Roots will open your eyes to the Jewish world of Jesus. This profound book reveals that the Christian life is much more than salvation; it's a lifestyle of obedience to the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation.

I had not heard of Dr. Vaughn before, so I was quite interested in reading his writings. I was not disappointed.

Dr. Vaughn explains what a covenant is, and how as Christians we are grafted into the Abrahamic covenant. In the Bible, Jesus celebrated all the Biblical Feasts, including Chanukah, the Festival of Dedication, (in John Chapter 10)  Did you know that the early Christians celebrated all the Biblical Feasts days? In fact, the first century church clearly identified with Judaism. The church was not separated from it's Jewish roots until Constantine the Great converted to Christianity near  AD 325.

With chapters such as Restoring the Hebraic Roots of Our Faith,  Symbols of Our Faith,  Keys to the Heart of the Kingdom, and America is a Judeo-Christian Nation you will learn more about your faith, and how to apply it more fully to your daily life, and your prayer life.

This book also has a glossary, as well as a complete list of works cited. I found both to be helpful.

This book verified what I had already learned about our Hebraic roots, and I also learned a lot. I love how the author tells us the Hebrew word used, and the meaning. I want a book like this to help me dig deeper into the subject, and Dr. Vaughn  accomplished this for me.

I highly recommend this book to all Christians. If you haven't learned about your Hebraic roots yet, this book is a great place to start.  And if you, like me, have already started to learn, this book will be a vary helpful continuation of your study.

My Review:
To be honest, when I first started reading this book, I thought the author was way off and I was not sure I wanted to continue reading it. I'm not a Bible scholar and there is a lot of scripture quoted in this book. At first I wasn't sure if I would be able to tell if the author was interpreting the quoted scripture references correctly or if he was bending it to his needs.

As I continued on though, I was really interested in the topic and felt that he had a lot of good information in it. The way he writes is very simple and easy-to-read even considering all the scripture that is quoted in it.

A couple of the chapters I found most interesting and why...
Chapter Two - Returning to the Ancient Paths
This chapter discusses:
-The Salt Covenant
-The Shema (one of the daily Jewish prayers)
-The Midnight Prayer

Chapter Three - Symbols of Our Faith
-The Word of God
-The Ark of the Covenant
-The Menorah
-The Shofar
-The Tallit
This chapter discusses a lot about the Torah, the Hebrew language, and common Jewish symbols. Although I found parts of this chapter confusing (mostly the language parts), the rest of it was very interesting. As a Christian we read and know about some of these symbols, but I don't think really understand what they were (and ARE) used for in the Jewish faith.

Chapter Four - Understanding the Times
This chapter talks about some of the Jewish festivals and holidays that the author feels are still valid for Christians. He explains what these days were for and why they are still important.
-Rosh Hashanah
-Yom Kippur
-Sukkoth

Overall, I thought this was a very good book. Even if you do not agree with all the points that the author makes in his book, it is very thought-provoking and you could spend a lot of time researching all the scripture that he quotes throughout the book. It really made me think about things like keeping the Sabbath, why we don't practice more of the Jewish feasts and holidays and other ponderings like this. I will probaby be thinking about these things for awhile.

It is interesting to learn the meanings behind some of the major Jewish holidays and symbols. I think it is important for those of us who are Christians to understand the Hebrew roots of the Christian faith whether or not you agree with this authors assumptions that you should be integrating some of the Jewish traditions into it.

I also think this would make a good book for a group discussion for a study group.

Note: I was provided a copy of The Next Great Move of God from Bring It On Publications in exchange for my honest review. All opinions in this post and on this blog are my own.

From the book:

Find the key to godly success in faith, family, finances, and fellowship with Him. Most Christians have understood the topic of salvation, but have never contemplated the Jewishness of Jesus. Understanding the culture in which Jesus lived will help you properly interpret the Bible. The Next Great Move of God-Christians Returning to Their Hebraic Roots will open your eyes to the Jewish world of Jesus. This profound book reveals that the Christian Life is much more than salvation; it’s a lifestyle of obedience to the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation.

What I thought:

This book is very thought provoking. I found it is easy to read and yet I will be pondering this book for sometime. Being a Christian I have always thought that the fact that Jesus was Jewish was very important. I have read about some of the Jewish traditions and talked with my Jewish friends about the importance of Jewish traditions, feast days and symbols. To be honest I have never understood why we were not taught about this important part of Jesus in Sunday School when I was growing up. When I have asked this question to some of my Christian friends I have had looks of why? Why would I want to know or acknowledge this part of our Christianity. Why should we care what does it matter? Why would we not?

Why not embrace those traditions that were so very important so long ago in the Old Testament. I remember the first time our church had a Symbolic Seder Feast. I grew up in a Methodist church and this was just not done. I am thankful to my pastor at that time for doing this. It gave me a greater understanding as to why Passover was so important. Our pastor also took us to a Jewish Temple where we were able to attend Temple and listen to the Rabbi. We have done some teaching with our children as to the importance of these symbols, feasts and traditions and how they play an important part of our faith.

This book is packed full of information and facts and Bible references to the Jewish roots of Christianity. It gives explanations as to why we should embrace our Jewish roots and why it is important and relevant to our faith today. I think anyone wanting to have a greater understanding our Jewish roots would gain wisdom and understanding from reading this book.

THE NEXT GREAT MOVE OF GOD REVIEW

My Thoughts on The Next Great Move Of God
 By Dr. Lasalle R. Vaughn

The Next Great Move Of God: Christians returning to their Hebraic Roots By Dr. Lasalle R. Vaughn is a fascinating read. Dr. Lasalle went deep into discussions that I have always wanted to know more about. Such as Isabella of castle and the religion she started back in the days of Columbus or who does Israel really belong to? Each part if this book was truly fascinating and I enjoyed reading about the differences in religions past present and future! The Next Great Move Of God is about the Jewishness in Jesus. The book will teach you to live the Bible completely so that your life may change for the better. I have always wondered the differences of Jewish faith and Christianity. I am so glad that Dr. Lasalle has opened up the world for me that I have never known of before.

I like how well this book was put together. It was very easy for me to understand and I am impressed with the way the words came across to me. I recommend that you read The Next Great Move Of God by Dr. Lasalle R. Vaughn. Especially if you are like me and always wondered about the true Hebraic roots of the Bible!

Review: The Next Great Move of God

"This is a Mama Buzz review. The product was provided by: Bring It On Communications/Dr. LaSalle Vaughn for this review." No compensation was received and all opinions are mine, and mine alone.

WOW! Is all I can say about this book. I’m a reader, by nature, of all types of books. I love to read and I read quickly. This book has been difficult for me to read. It’s not light reading and if you pick this book up thinking that you will be wrong. However, it is a book to ponder on. To take it in chunks and really think about what the author is saying. As a girl who has been in church and a Christian for many, many years, I can honestly say that this book has challenged my thinking; is continuing to challenge my thinking. About what? About church in general. What we, as fallen humans, have made “church” to be, what we’ve made Jesus out to be.

I was captured the very first moment I picked up the book and in the foreward section read these words…”The question shouldn’t be, ‘where do you go to church?’ but ‘where are you submitted for training for the work of ministry?’” We, as Christians have a call to go out and for too many of us and for too many years we’ve begun to see the church as our “social” place, not as a place to bring the hurt that need healing. I’ve been caught up in it and in recent months have begun to have my eyes turned open as I begin to view “church” in a different light.
I haven’t yet found all the words to describe what I’ve read so far. I’m looking forward to the remainder of the book, as my heart and my head get stretched and challenged in ways that they haven’t been before. To see what I’ve always known in a different light.

Book REview - THE NExt Great move of god

The Old Testament is sometimes discarded by Christians as unnecessary history and is replaced by what is seen as the more relevant New Testament. While the New Testament is obviously integral to God's Word, much is missed when the Old Testament is forgotten. The Next Great Move of God: Christians Returning to Their Hebraic Roots by author and pastor Dr. LaSalle R. Vaughn, helps readers appreciate the Hebraic roots of Christ and the beauty of the Old Testament.

The book covers many interesting twists and turns. In the just the first chapter, the author discusses the churches in the book of Revelation, the Azusa Street Revival of 1906, Constantine the Great, the Spanish Inquisition, the land of Israel, and the Old Covenants vs. the New Covenant. Altogether, these might appear to be rather random, but the author uses all of it to encourage readers to dig deeper into God's Word. It is still as scattered as it sounds, but it flows like a fascinating conversation.

The second chapter introduces readers to our Hebraic roots by revealing the principles behind the salt covenant, the shema, and time alone with God. I had never heard of a salt covenant before and was surprised to realize that it mentioned in bible verses I know I have read, but somehow overlooked. The salt covenant is a covenant of loyalty and trust. This chapter digs deeply into covenant relations, our relationship with God, and our relationships with others.

I am less enthusiastic about chapter three, entitled "Symbols of Our Faith". Dr. Vaughn discusses the alphabet of the Hebrew Bible with skip sequence counting and other symbolic and numeric interpretations. While I do not discount the possibility that there is significance to this, I have always had mixed feelings of fascination and discomfort when reading about it. The chapter does go on to discuss other interesting topics, such as the ark of the covenant, the menorah, the shofar, the tallit, and the Western Wall. The history of these symbols is beautiful, but I worry that some might take this chapter as a license to become distracted by these elements as a 'religion' rather than a faith. The author does not in any way say that these elements are necessary, but presents them only as edifying additions.

Chapters four and five discuss current times and coming times with much insight in an easy-to-follow manner. Chapter six presents an interesting study on eight keys to the heart of the kingdom. Most of these are basic beliefs shared by all Christians, but the author implies that not incorporating the seventh key, the Feast Days of God, can limit one's access to God's Kingdom. A brief description of the Feast Days is shared, but no explanation for why they are critical for Christians to celebrate.

Chapter seven adamantly insists that America is a Judeo-Christian Nation. There are many deep truths in this chapter, but I disagree with the chapter title. Our nation was founded on Christian values, but we are not a Christian state. To the many non-Christian Americans, insisting that it is so (when the Constitution clearly says that it is not) does little to persuade them to accept our beliefs.

My unrest with the book is summed up in the final chapter, when Dr. Vaughn says: "In order for a non-Jewish believer to embrace the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, they must embrace Ruth 1:16. Embrace the Jewish people, as your people, and their God will become your God." This sentiment was felt in many other places in the book, if the words were not put as plainly as they are here. I vehemently disagree with this line of thinking. No where in scripture are we commanded to embrace a Jewish culture as our own to become the children of God. We are heirs through adoption. Through Christ, God has loved us as His own. We are commanded to believe in our hearts and confess with our mouths that Jesus Christ is Lord and then we shall be saved. This is the requirement. To explore the Jewishness of Jesus is a rich and rewarding study. To incorporate elements of worship shared with God's chosen people can be edifying to our faith. To insist they are necessary for a proper relationship with God goes against scripture.

The Next Great Move of God is chock full of interesting studies that lead readers to delve deeply into God's word and to appreciate the holiness of God. There are areas with which I disagree, but we should always be on guard and ready to compare what we read and hear to scripture, knowing God's word is the unchanging final authority. The good far outweighed the bad in this book, where the bad only served to make me dig even deeper into the Bible.

About the Book:
The Next Great Move of God(Book by Dr. LaSalle Vaughn).
This author Dr. LaSalle Vaughn has written The Next Great Move of God-Christians Returning To Their Hebraic Roots. This book asks the question, “Have you ever considered the Jewishness of Jesus?” Most Christians are well versed on the topic of salvation but never leave the foot of the cross. As a result, they are likely to live defeated lives and experience many years of struggle and frustration. The purpose of this book is to equip people to look at the Bible through Hebrew eyes, helping to understand the need to be obedient to the entire Bible in a daily walk.
About Dr. LaSalle Vaughn (the author):
Dr. LaSalle Vaughn is the grassroots authority and advocate at the forefront of “the next great move of God,” which is Christians returning to their Hebraic roots. In addition to building the New Beginnings Children’s Home at Canaan Land Ranch a place of love, hope, and restoration for abused children, and authoring over fifteen books, he pastors one of the largest multicultural, multicolored congregations returning to their Hebraic roots in San Antonio, Texas.
When it comes to taking difficult and even controversial spiritual subjects and making them understandable, no one can do it more eloquently than Dr. Vaughn does. Vaughn is the quintessential teacher who himself studies under the leaders in this biblical field.
My Opinion:
I haven’t not finished this book but I am almost half way through and so far I am learning so much from it. I do see a need for Christians today to embrace Jesus’ Jewishness, while not all of us will start keeping kosher or speaking Hebrew (and no I haven’t read that the author thinks this either) we seem to have lost sight that Jesus was in fact a Jew. There is not shame in that and the God we all serve is one that has grafted us Christians or Gentiles into that family!
One thing that I especially found myself agreeing with was the fact that some Christian churches preach that there are two different Gods. I’ve never understood this, since the Bible tells us that God is the same today as He was yesterday and will be tomorrow. The God of the Old Testament and the God of the New Testament are one in the same, and it seems that churches today have decided to create a new modern God – one that doesn’t condemn sin or looks the other way – when that isn’t the case at all.
Since I haven’t finished the book I can’t say for sure if I’ll go on enjoying it, but I must say the first half has been very interesting and enlightening. While I wouldn’t consider myself a Messianic (since I’m not Jewish and can’t convert) or a Hebraic Christian (I do enjoy celebrating Christmas as the time of our Saviour’s birth) but I can see how embracing our rich Hebraic culture can give us a more meaningful look into our Faith as Christians.

My thoughts:
I'll be the first to admit I don't know everything about the Bible. Heck, I don't think I could tell you a I know a lot about the Bible. There's a lot in there and I think every time I pick it up I learn something new.

I never thought about the difference in religions too much growing up. I was Protestant, someone down the road was Baptist, my cousin's mom was Catholic. Religion was everywhere and all I knew is there was one God whom we all loved.

It wasn't until I was older, probably late teens, that I thought to myself if Jesus was Jewish - why is is called Christianity and how can so many people hate Jews?

You want to know a secret? At 31, I still don't get it. The hating Jewish part. I'm beginning to see the pieces coming together regarding Jewish/Hebraic/Christianity.

I'm learning and growing in my faith and I read a lot of books (as you can tell from my multiple reviews). This book was something that interested me because I have some friends who are very much followers of the Torah.

What is the Torah you ask?

Yea, I asked that too.

The Torah is the primary document of Judaism. Torah, which means "teaching", is God's revealed instructions to the Jewish People. It teaches Jews how to act, think and even feel about life and death. - via About.com

This is something that is touched upon in this book. All of the Jewish roots to the Christian faith. There is so much information in this book it may be a little confusing at first. I would recommend keeping it and your Bible handy and if you want, take notes. We're not going to get every piece of the Bible the first time we read it. And I don't think we are suppose to.

You can read an excerpt from the book athttp://www.thenextgreatmoveofgod.com/ and can either purchase the book there or at Amazon.com for approximately $10.70. I say approximate because I've seen it for as low as $9.63 and as much as $12. :)

There is also a glossary to help us understand the meaning of many words mentioned, such as "Brit Chadashah," (New Testament) and "Dreidel" (Four -Sided top, used for Hanukkah).

The book is full of fascinating facts, Bible references, current events (some of the various "movements" currently sweeping through our churches), and information on how to daily observe the Biblical commandments. The book iswell done, easy to read, and definitely something we need! If you are seeking to understand the Jewish roots of the Christian faith, you will be greatly encouraged by this book.
