The Place of Belonging - Book Review!

Review done by Rambles of a SAHM

Product Description From Amazon:

A warm and endearing, yet heart-wrenching memoir. The Place of Belonging, is about a child of a single mother in Big Sky Montana that is beautifully and simply told. It is an unforgettable step back in time, a fresh understanding of loss and belonging. Reading like prose, this elegantly written and emotionally satisfying story is told from the eyes of a child of the 1940’s.

"One of the best books we have ever published and that I have ever read."
Nancie Carmichael, DRB Publisher and bestselling author.

Anyone who has ever tried to fit in and belong will understand both mother and child in this narrative. . . and will see that separation and loss can sometimes
be the very encounters that will ultimately bring wholeness

My Take:
I loved this book. I picked it up and read it within three hours! I loved how the author pulls you into the story and you can't put it down. I wish there was a book two. The author does a great job of showing you life in the 1940's through the eyes of a young girl in Montana. One thing I loved was that the author shows you how the young girl feels but you can still see everyone’s side of the story. I loved how transparent Jayne is with her emotions. I wish everyone could have a grandma Olson in their life. Another thing I loved was at the end of the book is a photo of the family. I loved seeing what everyone looked like. This book was funny, sad, and I loved how it ended. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a great story. It would also be a good choice for a book club. I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

I recieved this book from Bring It On! Communications for my honest review. This review is my own.

Pookster and the Unloose Tooth - Review!

Review done by Rambles of a SAHM

My son and I really enjoy reading together and I think it is important for him to read books that teach a lesson as well as being fun to read. We received two books from the Pookster and Bubsseries to try. The first was Pookster and the Unloose Tooth and second was Pookster and the Practically Perfect Pickle. I have to say these books are cute, funny, and have a clear message.  My son loves the illustrations. What I loved was that each story came with a CD of the story. It was great to take this in the car and listen to the CD while my son flippedthrough the book. I loved that at the end of both stories there was a Bible verse to go along with the story. The Pookster and Bubs series would be great for ages 6 and up. It can work for younger children to if you read it out loud or listen to the CD (We did both!) I love it when I can find a book series this is fun to read and has a great lesson too. I would give these books 4 out of 5 stars! Author Rhonda Funk has written a third book called Bubs and the Pursuit of Puppiness! We are looking forward to reading it too. If you want to find more information on Pookster and Bubs you can visithttp://www.pooksterandbubs.com/Pookster_and_Bubs/Welcome.html or The Adventures of Pookster and Bubs on Face Book!

There, Kat’s feelings of isolation and hopelessness, spawned by her parents’ estrangement, develop into a selfish rage . Malcolm, a mentally-challenged boy who lives at the artist colony, tries to befriend Kat, but his very presence annoys her to her core. Though it takes a long and difficult summer for Kat to see it, Malcolm and his colorful guardian, Jeanette, are the examples of true and selfless love. The canvas of Kat’s life, first stained by pain and trial and now touched by love, begins to transform into a masterpiece.

About the Author:
Nan Corbitt Allen is a Graduate of The University of Alabama. She is the writer of over 100 dramatic musicals, and three books, and a 3-time GMA Dove Award winner.

I am an avid reader of most genres of literature. There is something about this book that drew me in immediately and captivated me until the final page. The characters in Watercolor Summer were deeply portrayed and I identified a part of myself in each one. It was a wonderful read, and I hated to put it down each time my children called to me for attention. I was sad to see it end, even though the end was remarkably satisfying! I highly recommend you taking a peek at it, it is an enjoyable read for a long weekend, or just sitting outside in the sunshine!

You can purchase Watercolor Summer direct from the publisher for $12, an autographed copy!

Beating the Marriage Odds - Book Review!

The statistics are staggering. One out of every two marriages today will fail. What is the cause of such staggering statistics? What, if anything, can be done to keep couples together? This book offers concrete principles for building and sustaining a sound marriage. It outlines the most common causes of marriage failure and offers sound principles to avoid or correct such problems. Those who are considering marriage as well as those who have been married for years will benefit from real life examples and principles that they can apply to their own marriages. Beating the Marriage Odds also provides a valuable resource for pastors, small group leaders and counselors.

Thrifty Nifty Daddy and I have been married almost 6 years now, the best 6 years of my life. I like to think that we have a pretty good marriage, but I've always believed in always trying to make my marriage better. I think it's something you  need to invest time and energy into every day, which is why I requested the book, "Beating the Marriage Odds" by William R. Campbell to review.

Although this book was written with the intent to help couples who are engaged and planning a marriage, I still found things that I have been able to apply to our marriage now. There were many things that made me think and I truly believe that reading this book will improve my marriage. I especially appreciated the chapter on Fighting Fair and Mind Games.

I also appreciated that Mr. Campbell used not only real world examples to make his points, but he also included Biblical scripture to back up what he was saying. If you are married and would like to improve your marriage or if you are engaged and planning to marry soon, I would definitely recommend this book! I give it two thumbs up!

You can get a brand new copy of this book for as low as $2.49 on Amazon.com!

The Key to the Kingdom - Book Review!

Review done by Edna
 ISBN: 9781935265245
Paperback, 269 pages
Deep River Books

Key To The Kingdom Trailer from Marc Percy on Vimeo.

MY REVIEW:

If you are like millions of people and love anything Disney then you will really enjoy this suspense book by Rev. Jeff Dixon.  Hawk is a pastor and have a very good friend that is an Imagineer at Disney World " Farren Rales".  When Farren wants Hawk to meet him in a locked gate way back in the woods Hawk could not imagine why.  When they meet Farren gave him a gift after walking through an enchanting little house that looks just like the home of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves"  he then gives Hawk a gift which is wrapped very carefully in different layers of cloth.  When he got to the gift it was a golden key and Farren told him now he was the keeper of the Key to the Kingdom, what did he mean?  After Hawk looked at it and then turned around Farren was gone.

While he tries to find out what this key is for he starts at Disney World as he has a pass to go when ever he wants.

This is really a great read and it kept me on my toes each page I turned.  Thanks to the Author for a signed copy of this book and to Bring It On Communications for sending to me free.  It was my choice to review it.

Day by Day with the Best of Spurgeon - Book Review!

Review done by Miguel

As one who has devoted his studies to the field of Christian Apologetics and theology, I often find myself very unsatisfied with daily devotional books. There are two major reasons why this is the case. One reason is length. For someone who is working full-time and is also enrolled in a graduate program it is difficult to spend a long amount of time each morning reading a devotional book. The second and by far the most important reason I do not like the majority of daily devotional books, is that they are theologically superficial and incredibly man-centered. Day by Day with the Best of Spurgeon has provided an answer to both of these objections.

Day by Day is a phenomenal devotional book. There is only one page of reading for each day and it is theologically rich! Dolores E. Coupland has done a great job of compiling some of Charles Spurgeon's greatest works and has placed it in short segments for the reader to chew on. This devotional is Christ-centered instead of focusing on all the things we need to do.

One of the things that just completely changed my Christian walk was when it was pointed out to me that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is not for the unbeliever alone. Rather it is for the believer just as much as for the unbeliever. For the unbeliever it is the message of salvation and for the believer it is the message of the mercy and grace that has already saved you and allows you to glorify God daily because of that.

If you're looking for a devotional that will be focused on "being a better friend in the work place" or "8 ways to become better organized" this is not the devotional for you. However, if your desire is to wake up each morning and use a tool that will help you to be focused on Christ and his glory and his gospel then I strongly recommend Day by Day.
