Mama Buzz Tour - Maximal Reserve Review!
Review done by Melissa
My Review of Maximal Reserve by Sam Batterman
What is it about?
From the website . . .
"...Petroleum engineer Phil Channing uncovers the single largest oil reserve in history—and he’s only been employed for a week. The find is so large that it dwarfs all Middle East reserves combine, and lies so deep within the bowels of the earth that it can’t be reached by any conventional method. He discovers how to tap into this Maximal Reserve through research left behind by a college friend who was brutally murdered just before Phil took the job. The secret lies in a cryptic revelation of a complex of lava tubes on the southwest side of the Dead Sea known as Etsba Elohim—the Finger of God..."
Review…
I’ve recently had the pleasure of reading and reviewing Maximal Reserve by Sam Batterman! Please read on . . .
Characters:
Phil- Geophysicist and Computer Scientist who seems a bit naïve throughout the entire story. He is the main character who discovers the Maximal Reserve.
Lisa- Phil’s girlfiend who is level-headed, and works for the Governor’s office in Austin, Texas. She is a great help to Phil throughout the story.
Lisa’s Parents- Not really main characters, but they do help outline Phil’s character. They portray Phil as a naïve man who desperately needs to get his head straight.
Sheridan Preston- Newspaper reporter who assists Lisa in uncovering the conspiracy behind the Maximal Reserve.
Glenn Martin- Chief Executive of Axcess Energy Corportation. He is an angelic speaker, but he only tells people what they want to hear.
Gorin- Russian mathematician, works with Dr. Chambers, Dr. Ward, and Phil in Discovery and Development at Axcess Energy. Portrayed as annoying.
Chambers- Chemist, lead of Discovery and Development at Axcess Energy. Portrayed as smart and selfless.
Ward- Astronomer, second assistant to Dr. Chambers, works in Discovery and Development at Axcess Energy.
Jack Sanders- Late friend of Phil & Lisa. Helps Phil uncover the secrets of Maximal Reserve after he is gone.
Detective Rizzo- Lead detective in unraveling the Maximal Reserve Conspiracy.
Caleb- Employee of Axcess Energy, friend of Phil, close relations to Jack Sanders.
Amir- Helps Phil in the long run!
Plot:
Phil was headed nowhere, he was a master in his field and was amazed when he landed a job with the amazing Dr. Chambers. His first day on the job landed him in some crazy position in the Atlantic, looking at top secret material. He returned home with a job, and a $20,000 sign on bonus. His job was to interpret 10 terabytes of seismic data, which was more than anybody has ever interpreted in the past. After some restless nights, and lots on painstaking work, Phil discovered the Maximal Reserve, an oil reserve that was the largest in history. In was so deep that it was impossible to drill, but with the help of Jack Sanders and the ImmortalMe website, Phil received the code on how to tap into the reserve. What was really interesting is that while Phil was discovering the reserve, his girlfriend, Lisa was working as an assistant to the Governor, who was in on the conspiracy. He was aware of the reserve, and worked with Axcess Energy, and foreign power-hungry oil terrorists to gain control over certain pipelines. With Lisa’s growing suspicions, and Phil’s master work, the story unfolds into a suspenseful, entertaining work of art of which I could not put down.
Key Notes:
I really liked this book, I read it super quick, because it was really, really interesting to me. I consider myself a conspiracy theorist, I always ask myself the question, “What If. . .” It makes life more interesting! When I was enlisted in the Navy, I was a Sonar Technician. Some parts of this book brought back so many memories, because it talked about oceanography, and sonar. It really hit home, and I understood all parts of it! When reading this book, I could tell that it was thouroughly researched. I love when books follow a truth, and the author takes time to verify the information. Overall, it was a great book, and I look forward to reading all the books that Sam Batterman has written!
