The Key to The Kingdom-Book Review

What would you do if you were handed The Key to The Kingdom? What did it unlock? Would you try to find the lock or just cherish the key and imagine the wonders?

Key To The Kingdom Trailer from Marc Percy on Vimeo.

Dr. Grayson Hawkes, is asked to meet an old friend Farren Rales, an Imagineering Ambassador for the Walt Disney Company at the mysterious Gamble House. The Gamble House was built in 1898 by James N. Gamble, the son of the Proctor and Gamble Company. In 1907 Gambles son-in-law, Alfred K. Nippert completed the 'Snow White House,' a Black Forest style cottage inspired by the Disney animated film classic, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Rales spoke with his friend about how Walt visited The Gamble House and understood for the first time in his life, in a tangible way, that if you tell a story with enough heart, people will do whatever they can to become a part of that story. Rales told his friend that he had something that he wanted to give him and believed it to be something of great worth. Rales reached into his pocket and gave Hawkes an old, beautiful skeleton key and said, 'I'm giving it to you because I think you'll discover it to be just as valuable.' Little did Grayson Hawkes know that it wasn't just a key, it was 'The Key to The Kingdom.' He told his friend that he would treasure it always and his friend replied 'Don't just treasure it, use it.'Grayson was faced with an adventure from the moment his friend handed him 'The Key to The Kingdom'. Rales handed him the key and disappeared into the darkness.

Dr. Hawkes a pastor at Celebration Community Church. The town of Celebration, a creation of the Disney Corporation meshed Disney philosophies with small-town stereotypes. It was a community of young families with strong values who desired the stability of being a part of a church congregation with non-traditional styles of worship and church structures. The Florida Baptist Convention had targeted this area to put it's new church. That is when Dr. Grayson Hawkes, a central Florida native entered the picture. He quickly accepted the call and assembled a church staff around him that loved Jesus and Disney World.

Key to the Kingdom: A Real Treasure Hunt at Walt Disney World from Marc Percy on Vimeo.

Hawkes was now on a suspense filled ride through Disney World. Discovering some of what he already knew but looking deeper to find the meaning of the key, he was armed with seemingly unimportant trivia to unlock each piece of a puzzle and yet has to figure out how to get the puzzle pieces to fit together. Most would overlook the clues they were given but Hawkes' fascination with Disney World would help aide him in his journey. It wasn't going to be easy for Grayson, he finds himself smitten with a dark haired employee of Disney World, Kiran. But was she a friend or a foe? Hawkes wasn't sure who he could trust.

Nothing seemed as it was, there were hidden meanings behind each clue but he had to figure them out if he was going to find his friend. He was inwarped in the clues that he wasn't able to see that trouble was lurking behind him. Within each new clue he was left with more questions than answers.

What does the whole 'Key to The Kingdom' mean?

Was Grayson Hawkes able to find out what The Key to The Kingdom meant or did he know it all along?
You'll just have to read the book to find out!
My View:
Once I started reading the book, I couldn't put it down, I wanted to unravel the clues along with Hawkes, figure out the meaning of the key! I started reading it at 6:00 on Saturday evening and finished at 7:00 on Sunday morning.
What I loved about The Key to The Kingdom was the fact and fiction of the fairytale and magic that you get from Disney World along with the suspense and not knowing what was going to happen from moment to moment. A man who's knowledge of Disney World surpasses what you see on the surface. The magic is not only inside the walls but inside of him to explore a world he never knew existed. It kept me on the edge of my seat as I was trying to figure out what had happened to his friend and where the adventure was going to lead next. It is filled with some great fun facts about Walt & Roy Disney that I didn't know before reading the book.
If you love the wonder and magic of the most Magical Place on Earth, I would suggest you pick up a copy of The Key to The Kingdom.
